Max LeRoy Hall, age 83, a lifetime resident of Poweshiek County, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, Iowa. Memorials for Max may be contributed to the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service and sent to the family. There will be no services at this time.
Max was born May 6, 1938 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Richard J. Hall and Jean M. (Miller) Hall. He attended Bear Creek #4 (Sigafoose) and Brooklyn Elementary schools and graduated with the Brooklyn High School Class of 1956. Max and Dorothy “Dotty” Rayl were married on December 27, 1958 at Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn. Max was a dairy farmer for over 40 years. He then worked for Kent Feed in Brooklyn until his retirement. Later he worked part-time for Monsanto, Rohrer Brothers of Victor, and the Brooklyn Elevator.
Max was an active member of the Brooklyn community. He was a member of the Mid-American Dairymen’s Association, National and Iowa Holstein Associations, the Brooklyn -Victor Country Club, the Madison Church of Christ, and served on the Brooklyn Mutual Telephone board. In his earlier years, Max played softball in the summer, bowled in men’s and mixed bowling leagues, and golfed with his family and friends. Closer to retirement the couple enjoyed motorcycle riding on their trike with local friends, attending rallies, camping, and meeting new friends. They were members of Iowa and national motorcycle organizations, attended rallies and traveled across the United States with friends. More recently his interests included watching dirt track car races and sports on television, and going to coffee to socialize with friends
Max leaves behind his wife Dotty; his children, Denise (Larry) Ford of Brooklyn, Donna (Leon) Beck of Grinnell, and Gregory (Sandy) Hall of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Ashley Beck Havely (Steven), Aaron (Jes) Beck, and Nathan Hall; and two great grandchildren Harper and Hudson Havely. Also surviving is his brother-in-law Walter Zahn of Oranoco, MN, his sister Barbara Ward (Donald) of Grimes, and his brother Patrick Hall (Cair) of Brooklyn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Hall, and a sister Sharon Zahn.
