Maureen Michaela Mims

NORTH ENGLISH-Maureen Mims, age 47, of rural North English, died of natural causes Monday, August 17, 2015, at her home.
Maureen was born August 31, 1967, in Iowa City, to Thomas and Barbara (Schwieters) Hussey. She graduated from Iowa City West High School, received her nursing certificate from Kirkwood Community College and earned her BSN from the University of Iowa. Maureen was a nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City for over 25 years. She married Jerry Townsend and they were later divorced. Maureen was actively involved in her community and enjoyed fishing, raising chickens, reading books, traveling and meeting people from other cultures.
Survivors include six children: Tanya Mims of Kinross, Alexander Mims of Iowa City, William Townsend, Anna Townsend, Robert Townsend and Michael Townsend, all of North English; her mother: Barbara Immermann of Kalona; father: Thomas Hussey of Iowa City; brothers: Jim Hussey of Kalona and Michael Hussey of Iowa City; sisters: Mary Malekzadeh of Toronto, Canada and Kathleen Ahluwalia of Lafayette, Louisiana; a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and first husband Terry Mims.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. Cremation will follow the visitation and no services are planned at this time.
