Mattie Marie Ropp was born March 20, 1932 in Reno, KS the daughter of Samuel and Katie (Coblentz) Miller. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church and remained a faithful member until her death. On April 14, 1955 she was united in marriage to Uriah M. Schwartz in Kalona. After the death of Uriah she later married Eldon G. Ropp on January 19, 1992 in Hazelton. Mattie passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at her home near Kalona at the age or 78 years, 7 months and 21 days. Mattie is survived by her husband Eldon of Kalona; 9 children - Anna (Mervin) Mast of Bremen; Rosella U (Henry) Wagler of DeGraff, OH; Jacob U (Delores) Schwartz of Bremen, IN; Susan Mae (Eli) Schwartz of Hamilton, IN; Katie Irene (Merlin) Hochstetler of Nappanee, IN; Mary U (Wilmer) Schwartz of Hamilton, IN; Joseph U (Florence) of Bronson, MI; Rudy U (Polly) Schwartz of Chouteau, OK; Edna U (Perry) Borntrager of Etna Green, IN; 8 step children - Catherine Ropp of Kalona; Elson (Arlene) Ropp of Kalona; Margaret (Martin) Yoder of Nappanee, IN; Delores (Jacob) Schwartz of Bremen, IN; Sanford Ropp of Millersburg, IN; Rebecca Ropp of Elkhart, IN; Ira (Jo Ann) Ropp of Milford, IN; Inez Ropp of Nappanee, IN; 52 grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and 2 sisters - Susan (Elijah) Miller and Katie Edna (Henry) Hilty. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Uriah Schwartz; a son, a son-in-law Merlin Hochstetler; 6 grandchildren; and 2 sisters Mary Schwartz and Oleta Miller. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Elson Ropp residence at 2484 540th st. S.W. in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Willis Yoder. Burial will be in the North Cemetery in Hazelton. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Ropp residence and will continue all day on Friday. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
