Matthew Ledbetter, 23, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, April 30, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Pittsburg, KS. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday, May 7th, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family desires that memorials be directed to the Matthew Ledbetter Scholarship, which will assist students who have chosen to further their education and plan to pursue a career in the construction field. The son of Mark and Mary (Bonk) Ledbetter, Matthew Allen was born November 26, 1986 in Toledo, OH. In 1988, his family moved to Mt. Pleasant where he graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 2005. He then attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS with a bachelor's degree in Construction Management. Matthew was in the process of joining the U.S. Naval Officer's Program as a Civil Engineer. He was currently employed at Robert L. Smith Construction as a carpenter. Matthew was an avid hunter, and loved fishing. He enjoyed working out with weights especially with his brother. He truly loved his brother and followed him daily throughout his high school and collegiate baseball career. His passion was his 2001 S.S. Camaro in which he took pride in maintaining. Matthew was a member and past Vice President of his college fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma, and truly respected and loved his fraternal brothers. Along with his parents, Mark and Mary, Matthew is survived by a brother, Marcus, of Mt. Pleasant; a grandfather, Henry Ledbetter of Mt. Pleasant; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Margaret Bonk; paternal grandmother, Linda Ledbetter; maternal great-grandparents Helen and Walter Bonk, and Mary Kajfasz; and paternal great-grandparents, Richard and Kay (Katherine) Scarff.
