Matthew J. Dhondt, age 44, died suddenly at his home in North English, on Saturday, May 11, 2013. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Christian Church in North English. Rev. Dr. Michael Donahue will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until service time. A family burial will be held in the North English Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Matt was born on August 27, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Rick and Sally Claypool Dhondt.. He grew up in North English and graduated from English Valleys High School and later attended William Penn College and Indian Hills College. Matt enjoyed sports and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. Recently he had worked at Toyota Finance in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by four children: Kyle, Shelby, Douglas and Danielle, sisters Jill Kuster of Hedrick, IA and Jennifer Dhondt of Gibson; a brother Adam Dhondt of Williamsburg, IA; and grandmothers: Reva Wyant of North English and Nedra Dhondt of Parnell. Matt was preceded in death by his father Rick Dhondt and mother Sally Hulbert, grandfathers Leroy Claypool, Marvin Dhondt and Arland Wyant.
