KEOTA-Mary Verlee Wells died peacefully April 4th, 2013 on her 88th birthday. Verlee was born in Columbus Junction to Mildred and Gale Smith. She attended schools in Columbus Junction. In 1946 she married Robert Pierce. Robert died in 1957. In 1962 Verlee married Keith Wells of Keota. She lived in Keota for the rest of her life. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, a bus driver for 30 years and active in her community. Verlee also lived in Ames and Albert Lea, MN. Verlee is survived by her 6 children, Nancy McKenize, Spring Grove, MN, Rick Pierce, Washington, Sue Jorg (Don), Waterbury, CT, Rita Schmidt (Robert), Iowa City, Bill Wells, Fountain Hills, AZ and Robyn Vogel (Patrick), Keota; 10 grandchildren;17 great grandchildren and three siblings, Betty Chatfield, Raymond Smith and Lyle Smith all of Columbus Junction. She was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Pierce, Keith Wells, and her parents Gale and Mildred Smith. Verlee was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Pastor Sheldon Henderson officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington County Hospice, the United Church of Faith or the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
