Mary Ruth Seberg, 83, of Coralville, IA, formerly of the Finley community, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the Lantern Park Nursing Home following a debilitating illness. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Olson Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 E. Mapleleaf Drive, Mount Pleasant, IA, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Olson Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Schantz officiating. Burial will be in Finley Chapel Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer's Association. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born October 8, 1925, in rural Wayland, IA, she was the daughter of Sam and Verna Eicher Hulme. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1943 and completed a business course at Iowa Wesleyan College. She later studied at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and then taught second grade in Washington, IA. On Sept. 5, 1948, at Finley Chapel, rural Trenton, she married Vernon Seberg. Together they farmed west of Swedesburg during their early years and also lived in the communities of West Liberty and Agency. In 1969, they moved to Oskaloosa where they co-owned the Photo and Hobby Shop and Mahaska Hearing Aid Center. She and Vernon moved to an apartment at Halcyon House in Washington in 1993. Vernon preceded her in death in 1995. Her later years have been spent in assisted living and then full-nursing facilities. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Oskaloosa, for 24 years and then enjoyed membership for several years in the United Methodist Church of Washington. She was active in many church groups and community organizations, including Altrusa, and was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women and the church choir. She enjoyed travel with family, bird watching, and music. Survivors include: three sons, Charles Seberg, Coralville, IA, Douglas (Mary Beth) Seberg, Burlington, IA, Christopher (Karen) Seberg, New Brighton, MN; one brother, Richard Hulme, Mt. Pleasant, IA; one sister-in-law, Nona (Jack) Roe, Iowa City, IA; four grandchildren, Hannah, Molly, Allyn, and Bryton; and twelve nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Dill Hulme.
