Mary E. Schrock

d. July 16, 2022

Kalona

Kalona- Mary E. (Graber) Schrock was born December 22, 1926 in Etna Green, IN, to Peter and Emma (Mullet) Graber. She was married to Olen L. Schrock on December 2, 1948 in Indiana. They moved to the Kalona area in 1956. She was baptized in her youth and was a member of Sharon Bethel Church. She was a homemaker and much more.

She enjoyed, people, sewing, quilting, and flowers. She never had an empty windowsill. They were all filled with blooming African violets or other plants. But most of all she loved her garden, the cycle of planting the seeds then harvesting the crop brought her much pleasure. She raised large volumes of vegetables to preserve for winter use. It’s how she fed/raised her family. She NEVER gave up on having a garden even after her mobility became limited. She was always generous with her produce and loved to share it with everyone.

Mary sewed hundreds of quilts, wall hangings and comforters. She donated many, many comforters to mission projects in Mexico and later to CAM. She also donated many beautiful quilts to Pleasantview Benefit Sale and MCC sales as well as to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her handiwork will live on and be remembered by many.

She was active in her church, teaching Sunday School, Bible School and with Prison Ministry as well as giving hours of time to sort & pack clothing to send to various missions.

Mary’s greatest desire was that her children walk in relationship with the Lord and live their faith.

Mary passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her residence in Kalona at the age of 95.
