Mary Lou Dentler, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may sign the register and leave memorials from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel,with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Heidi Riepe will be providing the music. Inurnment will be at a later date at the White Oak Cemetery. The Mary Lou Dentler Memorial has been established and will be used for flowers and beautification of the Mount Pleasant Square. Born December 8, 1922, in Hinsdale, IL, Mary Lou was a 1940 graduate of Hinsdale Township High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Howard Dentler, on September 29, 1942, at the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hinsdale. The couple recently observed their 70th wedding anniversary. While Howard was activated to military service, Mary Lou busied herself with various employments, following her husband from military base to military base. She was an executive secretary at the Gambles Skogmo Corporation in Chicago and later moved to Nashville, where she worked at the Tennessee State Agricultural Department. In other locations in Belleville, IL, Scottsfield, Mo and Chanute Field, she worked in grocery stores and restaurant services. During World War II, she was employed as the secretary to the comptroller of General Motors, in the LeGrange, Illinois Division. Many years later, she worked as a secretary for the Indiana Regional Office of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Mary Lou had a passion for flower gardening and egg decorating; Faberg style. Her beloved family took the highest priority in her life and she enjoyed spending time with each one of them. Mary Lou was a lifetime member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Howard of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Bruce (Ann) Dentler of Spokane, WA; two daughters, Bonnie (Jack) Kremer of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Patti (Craig) Van Sandt of Rock Island, IL; a daughter-in-law, Cyndi Dentler of Alabama; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Dentler; and two sisters.
