Mary L. Swailes

Mary L. Swailes, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring at the Grant Cemetery in rural Rome, IA. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorials in her memory may be given to the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born November 28, 1932, in Omaha, Nebraska, Mary was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Powers) Larsen. Following her graduation from high school, she attended college in Norfolk, Nebraska for one year. Mary became a homemaker when she married Howard Leonard "Buck" Swailes, Jr. in April of 1974. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2012. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Sharon (Raymond) Moad of West Burlington, IA; a brother-in-law, Pete Wehrle of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Edward "Hook" Swailes; and by two sisters-in-law, Shirley Wellington and Sally Wehrle.
