Mary Lavanda Stutzman was born on November 19, 1913 near Wellman, IA the daughter of John J. And Ida Mae Bessy Swartzendruber. She attended rural White Hall School and graduated from Wellman High School in 1932. Mary worked over 10 years at Maplecrest in Wellman. On December 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold J. Stutzman at her parents home in Wellman. After Harold returned from serving in WWII, they moved to the farm in Iowa County. She later moved into Wellman after Harold's death. Mary was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, the Friendly Circle and was a former member of the Farm Bureau for many years. Mary died following a brief illness on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at her home near West Chester, IA. She lived 94 years, 1 month and 10 days. She is survived by two sons: Richard ( Georgia ) Stutzman of Mill Creek, IN and Wayne ( Sue) Stutzman of West Chester, IA; 5 grandchildren: Mark (Lisa)Stutzman, Laurie (Ted) Tauber, Christy (Jamey) Kerr, Kari (Rusty) Tuttle & Jonathan (Sondra) Stutzman, and 15 great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband in May 1978, a brother Rolla Swartzendruber and a nephew Donald Swartzendruber. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman with the Rev. Dick Swartzendruber officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home on Thursday, January 3, 2008. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery.
