Mary Josephine Peebler

Mary J. Jo Peebler, 95, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Church in Fort Madison, in conjuction with her husband, Verns service. Inurnment will be in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville, IA. Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is assisting the family with arrangements. Born April 1, 1922, in Keosauqua, IA, Mary Josephine was the daughter of Iska and Edith Mae (Carney) Duvall. She attended country school in Keosauqua. Jo was a 1940 graduate of Fairfield High School and attended Parsons College, both located in Fairfield, IA. She married Vern Hale Peebler on August 10, 1941, in Fairfield. He preceded her in death, five days ago, March 17, 2018.

Following her education at Parsons College, Jo became the college secretary. For many years she taught adult education, through Southeastern Community College at various locations, helping adults obtain their GED. She later worked with English as a Second Language students at the community college and abroad.

Jo and her husband adopted three children and provided a foster home for numerous children over the years. She loved to collect dolls. Jo was an active member of First Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Ft. Madison. She was a great friend to many people.

Sharing in Jos life was a daughter, Carrie Herring of Ft. Madison; a son, Eric (Tyffanie Kalina) Peebler of Ft. Madison; a brother, Gary (Patti) Duvall of La Quinta, CA; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her canine companion, Munchee Chee.

Along with her loving husband, of 76 years, Jo was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sam Peebler; two sisters, Helen Hendricks and Bertie Christenson; and two brothers, Louis Duvall and Charles Duvall.
