Wellman-Mary Jo Boone was born March 15, 1946, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Samuel and Leona Pearl (Spain) Neal. She graduated from Keota High School. Mary was united in marriage to Allan “Butch” Boone on December 26, 1964, in Iowa City, Iowa. Mary worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the medical billing and coding department. She enjoyed reading, going to the casino, traveling and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman, where she had been an active member.
Mary died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 77 years.
She is survived by her children, Karen Fair (Jeff), Corey Boone (Valerie) and Steve Boone (Maria) all of Wellman; 14 grandchildren, Kendall Hammes (Taylor), Taylor Ney (Dylan), Kelsi Fair (Drake), Joe, Josh (Carly), Jesse (Mallory) and Payton Boone, Zach Oxley (Emmie), Derek Oxley (Summer) and Kyna Schulz(Aaron) , Joe Tripses, Ashley Neels (Matt), Arial and Ayla Tripses; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Neal and Connie McKray; a brother-in-law Dale Lampe and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Bil Neal and two sisters Bonnie Elmore and Sandy Allen.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church.
