KEOTA-Mary Ellen Detweiler, age 85, of Keota, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Mary Ellen was born August 6, 1933, near Keota, to Edgar and Mabel (Blick) Bandy and graduated from Keota High School. On November 24, 1951, she married Merlyn Detweiler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. A lifelong resident of Keota, Mary Ellen was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Bandy's Garage. She was a member of the United Church of Faith, United Women's Fellowship, Wilson Memorial Library Board and enjoyed family, playing cards, crocheting, reading and helping others.
Survivors include her husband: Merlyn; daughter: Mary Jean (Dan) Peiffer and son: Michael (Nancy) Detweiler, all of Keota; five grandchildren: Heath Peiffer, Jami (Chris) Holthaus, Jill Lukavsky, Nick Detweiler and Dylan Detweiler and fiancé Katie Gaughan; nine great grandchildren and brother: Darrell Bandy of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Robert and Dennis Detweiler; grandson: Ryan Detweiler and sister: Darlene Shaffer.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.
A memorial fund has been established for the Wilson Memorial Library, the United Church of Faith, Hospice of Washington County or the American Cancer Society.
