Mary Elaine Coxe was born on March 27, 1924, in North English, IA, the daughter of Ernest (Bing) and Della Lorene Hardy Mahannah. She grew up in North English and graduated from North English High School. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Casey on June 3, 1948, in Marengo, IA. They were later divorced. Mary taught dance for many years. On October 1, 1971, she married Ardith Ralston Coxe in Moline, Il. Mary lived most of her life in North English. She was a member of the North English Christian Church. She enjoyed music, dance and playing the snare drum. Mary became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in March 2001. She died peacefully at the Care Center on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 19 days. Mary is survived by a son Larry Casey of Buda, TX; sister-in-law Gilma Mahannah of North English; and a nephew Ron Mahannah and his wife Gloria of Dubuque, IA. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralston in August 1981, a daughter Christine Casey, and a brother C.W. (Bill) Mahannah. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in the North English Cemetery with Pastor Kirk Statler officiating. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Tuesday , August 18, 2009, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. A memorial fund has been established for the North English Christian Church or the English Valley Care Center. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
