Mary E. Goldammer, age 89, of Marengo passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Compass Memorial Healthcare, Marengo. Funeral service: 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Diane Vorhies officiating. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 10:00 a.m., until service time Saturday May 21, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the American Cancer Society.
Mary is survived by her husband Ray of 71 years; her daughters Jeanette (Roger) Meek of Beloit, KS., and Donna Hawkins of Holts Summit, MO., seven grandchildren Nick (Veronica) Meek, Chad (Tonya) Meek, Bret Meek, Tonya Stone (Joe), Cory Meek, Kayla Meek, and Robert (Amanda) Hawkins; 16 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Alice Heitman.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her four siblings Lois Wallace, Helen Hartin, Eleanor Dietrich, and Edgar Tompkins.
Mary Elizabeth Tompkins was born March 25, 1933, the daughter of Gordon and Blanche (Bell) Tompkins. She graduated from Marengo high school with the class of 1951. Mary was united in marriage to Ray Goldammer on July 1, 1951, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. She worked in the meat department for the Me Too Grocery Store for 24 years, Amana Refrigeration for 15 years, and lastly Big G for 10 years. Mary was a member of the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, keeping a vegetable garden, and was a sewing extraordinaire. She cherished her weekly visits with her niece Mary Ann Goldammer. Mary especially loved spending time with her family.
