Mary Cecil Smith was born on October 14, 1912, in North English, IA, the daughter of George H. And Mabel Pauline Kirkwood Smith. She graduated from North English High School and has been a life long resident of North English. Mary Cecil worked as a postal clerk for 36 years, retiring in 1972. She acted as Post Master in North English for 2 ½ years while her brother George was in the service. Mary Cecil was a member of the North English Christian Church and had been a member of the Eastern Star since November 1931. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading romance novels. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in December 2001. She died following a short illness on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. Mary Cecil lived 94 years, 9 months and 28 days. She is survived by a nephew George (Fred). Smith (Debbie) of Winthrop, IA; great nephews Andy Smith & Chad Smith; and sister-in-law Maxine Wade of North English, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George M. Smith; sisters Lydia L. Smith and Dorothy Smith. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Kirk Statler officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 13, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery.
