Mary Brenneman was born January 7, 1911 near Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Barbara (Kauffman) Brenneman. She attended East Lincoln rural school. Mary has lived in the Kalona community all of her life where she worked as a seamstress, operator at Sharon Telephone Company and cleaned homes in Iowa City. She was a charter member of the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church. She volunteered with prison ministries correcting Bible studies. Mary enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Mary died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 102 years. Mary is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers - Ephriam, Simon, Ezra; and four sisters - Emma Hostetler, Barbara Swartzendruber, Sarah Swartzendruber and Katie Hostetler. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
