SIGOURNEY-Mary J. Blomme, age 96, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Sigourney Care Center, from complications of age. Mary was born September 7, 1909, in Andalusia, Illinois, to Phil and Johanna (Nitz) Blomme. She received her education at Hazel Dell country school south of Ottumwa. Mary farmed near Hayesville for many years and delivered eggs around the Sigourney area. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and enjoyed quilting. Survivors include her sister: Cora Gettings of Ottumwa; two sisters-in-law: Mary E. Blomme of Ottumwa/Phoenix, Arizona and Dorothy Thielen of Batavia; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Arthur, Raymond and Bernard Blomme. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Ottumwa. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for St. Mary Catholic Church. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
