SIGOURNEY-Marvin A. Miner, age 91, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Marvin was born December 30, 1926, in Barnes City, to Benjamin and Inez (Capehart) Miner and graduated from Rose Hill High School. He then served in the Army and on an aircraft carrier and escort carrier in the Navy during World War II. Marvin married Peggy Beach in Rose Hill and the couple later moved to Sigourney to raise their family. He was a man of many talents including being a licensed pilot. He established and maintained multiple business pursuits including Marvin Miner Services. Marvin was also a real estate agent. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Kaaba Shrine, Knights of Pythias and a former member of the Sigourney Kiwanis, serving at one time as Lt. Governor of the Nebraska/Iowa Region. He loved traveling - visiting every state, flying on the Concorde and going around the world twice, NASCAR and fixing things, but, most of all, his family.
Survivors include his wife: Peggy of Sigourney; two daughters: Amy Miner and Alison Miner, both of Des Moines and his feline companion: Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Virgil, Glen and Wayne.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church in Sigourney, with Rev. Dave Welch officiating. Burial will be at Tioga Cemetery near Rose Hill, with military rites by American Legion Post #19 and Lacey Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a Masonic service at 7:00.
