Marvin M. Miller

Marvin M. Miller age 78 of Marengo, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2017, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Anni Mingin officiating. Military Honors and a Masonic Service will be conducted at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 3, 2017 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Carol; a son Jim Miller of Davenport and his sons Noah and Brady; a daughter Maurine Miller and her son Harris; and his siblings, Maynard Miller and wife Mary of Arkansas, a sister Minerva Williams of Arizona and a half-brother Fred Miller, Jr. of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Fred Williams, and a brother-in-law, Harold “Bob” Williams.

Marvin Milton Miller was born March 9, 1938 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Fred J. Miller and Nona Brenneman Miller. He graduated from the Parnell High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for four years, stationed in San Diego and Japan. He and Carol Brown were married October 2, 1960 in Iowa City. When he returned to the Marengo area, Marv was a loan officer with the Oxford Bank, then worked as an accountant with Van Winkle -Jacob Engineering and lastly with Walmart in the outdoor/gardening department.

Marv was an active member of the Marengo community. He served on the Marengo Hospital Board and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Marengo Masonic Lodge and El Kahir Shrine, and a proud member of the Marengo Legion Post 76. He enjoyed assisting Carol with organizing the July 3 ^rd Parade for many years. He liked to play cribbage and golf, and make grape wine and Rivel Soup (a German soup). He also spent time doing macramé and crocheting. He especially enjoyed attending the childrens’ events, and was their biggest cheerleader. He had a wonderful sense of humor, playing jokes on folks and having a good time.
