Parnell-Marvin James Dhondt was born November 18, 1927 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Casimar "Jim" and Mathilda (Koehn) Dhondt. He attended rural school. Marvin entered the Navy in 1945 until 1947. Marvin was united in marriage to Nedra Claypool in January 9, 1948 at the St. Paul United Methodist parsonage in Cedar Falls. He has been a life long resident of the Parnell community. Marvin worked for a number of different employers the most recent was Rapids Chevrolet in Cedar Rapids as the Service Manager, until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in his garden. He was a member of the VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Marvin died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at his home at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife Nedra of Parnell; three children: Rickey Dhondt of North English, Jerry (Rita) Dhondt of Williamsburg and Samra Ollendick of Hills; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a sister: Laurene Gorsch of Millersburg. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law: Joe Ollendick. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. There will be a VFW Service Thursday at 7:00pm.
