WELLMAN-Marvin Dale Slaubaugh, age 74, of rural Wellman, Iowa, died Friday, September 4, 2009, at his home. Marvin was born October 6, 1934, in rural Parnell, Iowa, to Jacob Arthur and Mary Anna (Yoder) Slaubaugh and graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School in 1953. On April 25, 1959, he married Alma Grace Miller in Goshen, Indiana. Marvin was the fourth generation to live on the Slaubaugh family farm, where he worked as a dairy farmer for 18 years. He was also a production worker for Yoder Feeds from 1977 until 1995 and DeKalb Feeds from 1996 until 2000. Marvin was a member of West Union Mennonite Church, where he served as MYF sponsor, usher, President of MDS and served on the Church Council. He was also a member of the Iowa Mennonite Historical Society and a volunteer at Crowded Closet. Marvin enjoyed flowers, gardening and maintaining his lawn. Survivors include his wife: Grace Slaubaugh of Wellman; son: Kenton J. Slaubaugh of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter: Cathy Murray and husband Don of Parnell; foster son: James Dewey Nelson of Horton, Kansas; two grandsons: Reece and Max Murray and two sisters: Kathryn M. Slaubaugh of Kalona and Helen S. Lindstrom of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Carolyn G. Yoder. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell, with Pastor Martha Yoder officiating. Burial will be at West Union Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Memorial contributions to District 3 Mennonite Disaster Service or Iowa City Hospice are preferred to flowers or plants.
