Wellman- Martha Ann Nye was born February 25, 1939, in New Hampton, Iowa. The daughter of Donald and Myrtle (Henrikson) Usher. She graduated from Twin Rivers High School in Bode, IA in 1957. Martha got her BA in Elementary Education at Iowa State in 1961, and MS reading in 1973 at the University of Nebraska. She was an Elementary Teacher at Eagle Grove, Ames, IA, Ralston, NE, Fairview School, and Washington Township until she retired in 2005. In 1975 Martha was selected as an outstanding Elementary teacher of America in recognition of contributions to the advancement of elementary education and service to the community. She received this honor while working at Ralston Community School District of Ralston, NE. She served many years on the Wellman Scofield Library Board. On February 18, 1966 Martha was united in marriage to John Robert Nye at the Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames. She enjoyed stamping, card making, singing, reading, and studying about her Norwegian heritage. Martha passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 82 years.
Martha is survived by 5 step children: John (Sue) Nye of Texas; Joanna Posten of Ypsilanti, MI; Joy Nye of Opelousas, LA; Twila Nye of Richland, MI. and Thomas (Shari) Nye of Wellman, 18 grandchildren and Numerous great grandchildren, two sisters Ruth Murphy of Manito, IL and Sara Johnson of Chesterton, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and Husband.
Celebration Of Life Service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. The service will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/UpperDeerCreek.
