Martha Ella Moffit was born on January 6, 1918 the daughter of George W and Bessie (Aggson) Denison in the Green Valley area East of North English. She attended a rural school in Fillmore township. She married Wayne W Moffit on April 10, 1938 in Lancaster, MO. They lived and farmed in the Green Valley area until they moved to North English in August of 2006. They spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona for many years until the drive got to be too much for them and then they spent their time traveling to the casinos and going out to eat. Martha always had a big garden, and she loved to cook for anyone that would come to eat with them. It was always a 6 course meal. When she was on the farm she baked every day. She died at the English Valley Care Center in North English, on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 15 days. Martha is survived by her son Robert E Moffit, and his wife Gay, 3 granddaughters, Debbie (Clay)Toler of Glen Alan, VA, Sherrie(Ron) Maschmann of Millersburg, IA, Kristi Hargis of Council Bluffs, 12 great-grandchildren Carrie Knipfer, of Harper, IA, Steven Knipfer, of Ottumwa, IA, Ryan Knipfer of Wessington Springs, SD, Megan Hall, of Mechanicsville, VA, Trenton Forrest, of North English, IA, Danielle Weldon, of Glen Alan, VA, Jeannie Hargis, Jessica Hargis, Janna Hargis, of Council Bluffs, IA, Rhonda Waters, of Iowa City, IA, Renee Maschmann, of Coralville, IA, Michelle Koehn of North English, IA, 9 great-great-grandchildren, a sister Shirley Garringer of Williamsburg, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (4 years to the day) 2 sisters, Sarah Moffit, and Helen Denison, 2 brothers George S and Ross Denison. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 23, 2010, from 4 PM to 7 PM. Burial will be in the Piersol cemetery near North English.
