SIGOURNEY-Martha A. Green, age 95, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness. Martha was born December 21, 1912, in Sigourney, to Charles H. and Phoebe (Hendricks) Elliott, who moved to Sigourney in June of 1907 to operate a produce farm and broom factory. Martha graduated from Sigourney High School in 1931. On March 19, 1932, she married Johnston Green in Sigourney. A homemaker, Martha was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Sigourney, where she served as Sunday School teacher and pianist. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge, Rebekah Lodge and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include two sons: Robert and wife Mary of Dewey, Arizona and William and wife Virginia of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren: Jeff, Tony, Lisa, Bill, Nathan and Tim; 10 great grandchildren: James, Jennifer, Margie, Amy, Christopher, Colleen, Nathan, Maya, Carissa and Megan; three great great grandchildren: Haley, Aryana and Steven; two brothers: Jim Elliott of Cedar Falls and Marion Elliott of Deep River and one sister: Lucille Rogers of Milan, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Johnston in 1996; brothers: David and Charles Elliott; sisters: Bernice Martin and Margery VanPatten and step-sister: Dortha Dewberry. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Sigourney, with Rev. Dirk Alspach officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Keokuk County or the Sigourney First Baptist Church. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
