Williamsburg- Marlene A. (Koester) Hagen was born July 29, 1937 in Troy Township near Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Esther (Stohlmann) Koester Jr. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1955. Marlene was united in marriage to Harlan R. Hagen on June 21, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, Iowa. She was employed by Security Savings Bank as an assistant cashier for 38 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she assisted the church secretary for many years and served as a greeter for 40 plus years. She was an officer of the Walther League and participated in volunteer work over the years. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed going to the farm and caring for the cats. Marlene died Monday, February 5, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness at the age of 69 years. She is survived by her husband Harlan of Williamsburg; a step-son: Gary (Becky) Hagen of Marengo; 4 step-grandchildren: Shannon Hilton, Collette York, Thad (Andrea) Hagen and Nicholle (Brian) Mumby; 8 step great-grandchildren; a brother John (Virginia) Koester III of Williamsburg; three nieces: Donna (Donn) Patience and children Andrew and Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Ruth (Mike) Koester-Craig and children Susan and Nicholas of Ankeny and Julie (Jason) Carrico and children Katie and Laura Williamsburg ; five brother and sister-in-laws: Willard (Sharon) Hagen of Williamsburg, Robert (Caryl) Hagen of Newhall, Gilbert (Betty) Hagen and Elenora Hagen all of Blairstown and Elmer Von Ahsen of Belle Plaine. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-son Danny Hagen. Celebration of life services will be held 10:30am Thursday, February 8, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
