HARPER-Marjorie M. Striegel, age 88, of Harper, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness. Marjorie was born November 22, 1920, in rural Sigourney, to Zeno and Edna (Horras) Hammes. She grew up in the Clear Creek area and attended rural schools. On April 3, 1945, she married Cletus M. Striegel at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. Following marriage the couple lived in the Harper community, where Marjorie was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and an active member of the Women's Club for several years. Marjorie enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and being with her family. Survivors include five children: Mary Jane Striegel of Marshall, Minnesota, Fr. Robert "Bob" Striegel of Iowa City, Dr. David Striegel and wife Terry of Sac City, Rita Ann Krueger and husband Jon of New Richmond, Wisconsin and Andrew Striegel and wife BeLinda of Harper; 10 grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters: Isabelle Baker of Washington and Mary Hahn of Sigourney and one brother: Bernard Hammes of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Cletus in 2005 and brother: Donald Hammes. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung and Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Manor House Care Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
