Marjorie M. VanHamme, age 91, of Brooklyn, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021, at Brooklyn Community Estate. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Father Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
Marjorie is survived by her two children Donna Kay Vercande (Richard Cibula) of Brooklyn, and Dennis (Gaye) VanHamme of Grinnell; three grandchildren Diana Kay Lindquist (Chris Thome) of Gilbertville, Dustin Patrick Vercande (Erin) of Decorah, and Tammie Jo Gregory (Roger) of Grinnell; and five great-grandchildren Jake Lindquist, Sawyer, Cashton and Ryder Vercande, and Emma Jo Gregory.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 1999; her father Morris LaKose in 1969, her mother Elizabeth LaKose in 1973, her brother Marvin of Tacoma, WA., in 1990.
Marjorie Mary LaKose was born August 13, 1930, in Grinnell, Iowa to Morris and Elizabeth DeVilder LaKose. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1947. On September 17, 1949, she was married to Leonard Charles VanHamme at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Victor until moving to Brooklyn in 1978. Marjorie enjoyed reading and working in her garden. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Altar & Rosary. Marjorie will be missed by many.
