Cedar Falls- Marjorie Lillian Goodman was born June 28, 1924 in Green Valley, near North English, Iowa, the daughter of Murray and Bessie (Ponchaud) Hall. She attended country schools, graduated from North English High School and went on to receive her teacher's education from Coe College. On August 7, 1948 Marjorie was united in marriage to Cecil Lee Goodman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a teacher for many years in the Cedar Rapids community. Marjorie was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed teaching, crafting, coloring, and gardening. Beginning her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, she enjoyed making lifelong friends with her co-workers and students. She had a positive influence and touched so many lives. She will be greatly missed. Marjorie died on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 93 years.
She is survived by three daughters Ellen Owen of Denver, CO, Janice Goodman of Crystal Lake, IL and Ruth (Phil) Akin of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren; a sister Merna Back of Palo; one brother Earle Hall of Millersburg and two grand kitties Oreo and Orbit. She was preceded by her parents; husband Cecil; four brothers Wayne Dean Hall, Murray Hall Jr., James Hall and Ronald Hall; two sisters Bette Hall and Mary Lou Hopp; and a grandson Matthew Whitty.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Memorials may be given to St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and the North English History Center. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
