HARPER-Marjorie Hotchkiss, age 90, of Harper, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Marjorie was born March 30, 1922, in Wellman, Iowa, to Otto and Cora (Wetrich) Ossman. She graduated from Wellman High School and Ottumwa Beauty Academy. On August 18, 1944, she married Gale Hotchkiss at the Chatham Airfield Chapel in Savannah, Georgia. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota area and moved into Harper in 1977. Marjorie was a member of the Kinross Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, the Kinross Social Club and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for her family. Marjorie was a compassionate person who always put others first. Survivors include two children: Karen Dawson and husband Steve of Iowa City and Tom Hotchkiss and wife Billie of South English; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a brother: Harold Ossman of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gale in 2005; one granddaughter: Jill Hotchkiss and two sisters: Dorothy Lyle and Loretta Stoutner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be at Brethren Cemetery near South English. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Kinross Christian Church.
