Marjorie Elizabeth McKim

June 18, 1929 — July 12, 2019

Marjorie McKim, 90, originally from Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at Green Acres Assisted Living in Cedar Springs, MI.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Inurnment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Ayr, IA. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in her name.


Born June 18, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, she was the daughter of Paul and Verna (Mecum) Heizer. She graduated from the Mt. Pleasant High School and received her R.N. Degree from Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.

Marjorie married Lynn C. Wright in Chicago, IL in July of 1960. He died in May of 1961. She married Weldon Glen Sandage on February 29, 1964, in Unionville, MO. He died on December 5, 1967. She married Richard McKim on February 4, 1973, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He preceded her in death on November 2, 1991.


Marjorie spent most of her life in Southeast Iowa. She was employed by Klein Hospital in Burlington, IA, for one year and then worked for ten years in acute care nursing at Henry County Health Center. Marjorie worked in Decatur County Hospital in Leon, IA, for three years before returning to Mt. Pleasant. She worked with Southeast Iowa Community Action Program from 1968-1971 and spent fourteen years as a public health nurse, retiring in 1988.


Marjorie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, U.M.W., Oakland Mills Ladies Aid, Henry County Unit of American Cancer Society, and Nimble Thimble Quilt Group.


Survivors include: two daughters, Catherine Sandage Beattie of Rockford, MI and Mary Sandage of Auburn, AL; one stepson, Gary Sandage of Danville, IA; three stepdaughters, Karen Pobanz of Wayne, NJ, Kathy Noll of Hillsboro, IA, and Carolyn Smith of Amarillo, TX; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two brothers, James and Frank Heizer; and one sister, Mary Louise Heizer McNeeley.
