Marion Lee Barnes was born August 17, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Jack and Ada Arlene (Binley) Barnes. He attended Wellman High School. He served in the United States Navy. He married Fatima Rahali in Morocco, they later divorced. He had worked as a custodian at the University of Iowa Hospital. Marion died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City at the age of 62 years. He is survived by two sons - Mustapha Steve Barnes and Hafid David Barnes of North Liberty; six grandchildren; step father Owen Bringman of Wellman; six brothers - Rollin Barnes, Albert "Barney" Barnes, Steve Barnes, Jack Barnes all of Mount Pleasant; Kenny Barnes of Coralville; Mark Bringman and wife Angie of Washington; and a sister Della Stafford and husband Jay of Aurora, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother Ada Arlene Bringman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Mark Larson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A general memorial fund has been established.
