Marion Edward Detweiler

Marion Edward Detweiler, 89, of Williamsburg passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Marion was born April 18, 1925, son of Clarence and Sarah (Slaubaugh) Detweiler in their home in Iowa County, Iowa. He married Rosemary (Grusnick) on September 27, 1947 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waupun, Wisconsin. Marion was a lifetime farmer. They lived in Wisconsin where he operated a dairy farm for 5 years before moving back to Iowa. He farmed in Iowa, first as a dairy farmer, and later raised beef cattle, hogs, and crops. His three sons joined him in the farming operation and expanded into custom farming until he retired in 1995. He also worked at Yoder Feeds, Amana Refrigeration for 25 years, and sold seed corn. His favorite past times were attending his grandchildren's activities and playing games with them. Horses were a big part of his life, and he especially enjoyed giving his grandchildren horse cart rides. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends, John Deere tractors and Ford cars. Marion especially enjoyed spending time with all of his family.
Marion is survived by his loving wife Rosemary, 3 sons, Larry (Carolyn) Detweiler, Parnell; Jim (Mary) Detweiler, Williamsburg; and Tom (Carrie) Detweiler, Parnell; Daughter, Kathleen (Allen) Schrock, Cedar Rapids. 10 Grandchildren, Shana Schrock, Vanessa (Chris) Vega, and Aleasha (Chris) LeClere, all of Cedar Rapids; Shantell (Theodore) Krabill, Parnell; Stacy (Kyle) Jones, Williamsburg; Tyrel, Jordan, Joel Detweiler, Williamsburg; Tiffani Detweiler, Apache Junction, Arizona; Rachel Detweiler, Parnell. 10 Great-Grandchildren, Aleksyia and Chance LeClere, Logan and Brayden Vega, Elizabeth Mullnix, Bentlee McCauley, Will and Aiden Kolck, Emma, and Gabriel Marion Krabill.
He is also survived by one brother, Wallace (Liz) Detweiler, Morson, Ontario, Canada; 3 brothers-in-law, John (Wanda) Zimmerly, Jackson, Ohio; Floyd (Julia) Miller Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho; Francis Hesprich, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; 4 sisters-in-law, Rita Grusnick, Virginia Krause both of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Helen Cheadle, Ada, Oklahoma.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Cecil Detweiler; 2 sisters, Trula Zimmerly and Marjorie Miller; one son, Edward James; 3 brothers-in-law, George Grusnick, Tony Rechek and Arman Krause; and 3 sisters-in-law, Marjorie Rechek, Velda Rechek, and Laverne Hesprich.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2-6 pm at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6 pm. Funeral mass will be Monday, September 8 at 10 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove, with Rev. Edmund Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Holbrook, IA. Memorials may be directed to St. Michael's Cemetery in Holbrook Iowa, where Marion spent many years overseeing and maintaining the cemetery.
