KALONA - Marilyn Louise Yutzy was born September 18, 1932 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Simon and Cora (Hershberger) Brenneman. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School and attended Hesston College. On August 14, 1952 Marilyn was united in marriage to Ernest O. Yutzy at East Union Mennonite Church. They made their home in the Kalona community where they were dairy farmers. Marilyn was an active member of East Union Mennonite Church teaching Sunday school, singing, and participating in the women's sewing circle. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, and volunteering at Crowded Closet. Marilyn passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, in her daughter's home in Goshen, Indiana at the age of 84 years.
Marilyn is survived by 2 sons: Greg (Deanna) Yutzy of Newton, KS; Bryan Yutzy of Frankfurt, Germany; 4 daughters: Geneva (Stan) Thoman of West Liberty, OH; Charlotte Yoder of Goshen, IN; JoAnn (James) Hershey of Maple Grove, MN; Susan (Dan) Martin of Advance, NC; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 step great great grandchildren; and a brother Deward Brenneman of Harrisonburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest in 1994; a grandson Collin Hershey, and a sister Ardis Zerger.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29th at 3:00 PM at East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Joel Beachy will officiate. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has established for Crowded Closet of Iowa City. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
