Marie Tremmel, age 85, of Sigourney, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Manor House in Sigourney following a brief battle with cancer. Marie was born on June 16, 1925, near Martinsburg, to Ray and Gladys (Martin) Chacey. They lived on a farm near Martinsburg. She attended Martinsburg schools for eleven years and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1943. After graduation she went to work in the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office for E. Tremmel for 3 years. In April of 1946, she married John J. Tremmel. Marie went to work part time for several offices in Keokuk County Court House. She alsoworked at Wyllie's Insurance Office. In 1960, she went to work for the City of Sigourney as Deputy Cit Clerk and retired from there in 1987. She also was appointed as secretary to the Sigourney Fire Board in 1972 and retired from this position in April 2010 at the age of 84. She currently had been working part time for Conklin Ins. And enjoyed it very much. Marie's cornerstone was her family and she loved them with all her heart! She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her great grandkids. Marie was an avid basketball fan and made as many trips as possible to watch her son David and grandson Zachary coach their teams to victory. Family and friends were a big part of Marie's life. She is survived by her son David and wife Nancy of Sigourney; 3 grandchildren Shannon Marie (Chris) Webb of rural Sigourney, Regina (Matt) Snakenberg of Flower Mound, TX and Zachary (Tiffany) Tremmel of Victor; 8 great grandchildren: Zebulen, Zeke and Zoe Webb, Drew, Ellie Marie and Jack Snakenberg and Adalynn Maire and Jordan Tremmel; and a Brother Rex (Jennie) Chacey of Ollie. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sigourney. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney. Visitation will be on Friday from 1-8 pm with the family present from 6-8 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established.
