Marie Joy Fry, age 85 of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, with Rev. Daniel Jessop officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg with military honors. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joy is survived by her son Tod Fry, of Williamsburg; two daughters, Kim Fry, of Williamsburg and Lynnette (Larion) Yoder, of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Jaclyn) Kolosik, of Kalona, Jennifer Stark, of Amana, Jacob (Tiffany) Schlesselman, of Marengo, Alaysia McAtee (Nate), of Seattle, WA, Briley McAtee (Drew), of North Liberty, Bowen (Katelin) Yoder of Williamsburg, and Keanna Fry, of Williamsburg; and eight great-grandchildren, Cora and Everly Kolosik, Ella Stark, Evan, Owen and Karter Schlesselman, and Huxley Yoder. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill in 2006, two sisters and one brother.

Joy was born July 27, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA. She is the daughter of Joseph and Florence Dych Eglinger. Joy served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 - 1956. Joy and William L. Fry were united in marriage on June 4, 1955 at the North Chapel of the San Diego U.S. Naval Base. In 1956 the couple moved to Iowa, where Joy was a member of the Williamsburg VFW Auxiliary, and the First Presbyterian Church. She was a certified EMT-I for the Iowa County Ambulance Service for 25 years in Williamsburg. Along with being a certified therapy dog handler, she also was employed as a secretary for the University of Iowa doctors in Family Medicine.

Joy was a very strong and independent person. She was welcoming, supportive and yet humble in everything she did. She was a friend and mentor to many and she loved her family very much.
