Marie E. Todd, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016, at New London Specialty Care. Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, IA. In lieu of flowers gifts of love and friendship may be given to the Marie Todd Memorial. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born November 18, 1938, in Toledo, IA, Marie Emma was the daughter of Ervin Victor and Emma Marie Hruby Lacina. She was a 1956 graduate of Tama High School. On September 8, 1963, she married Jim Shadle in Denver, CO. They later divorced, and she then married David Todd in Cedar Rapids, IA. The couple eventually divorced, as well. Most of Marie's professional career was connected with food. She worked in many different places, King Tower in Tama, Bishops Buffet and Swiss Colony, both in Cedar Rapids. Marie owned and operated the Sonrise Caf in Morning Sun, IA. Her work career concluded in Tulsa, OK, at Big Sky Bread and Wild Oats. Church has been a part of Marie's adult life having been a member Noelridge Park Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, First United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, Victory Christian Center in Tulsa and most recently Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant, where she has served as a prayer partner and a member of the hospitality team. She belonged to The Lioness Club in Morning Sun. Recently Marie enjoyed adult coloring books and was known for her competitive card playing. Marie is survived by a son David Shadle of Morning Sun, IA; a daughter, Michelle (Cliff) Baker of New London, IA; three brothers, Richard (Merle Lee) Lacina of Toledo, IA, Robert (Kathleen) Lacina of Prescott, AZ, and Harold (Carol) Lacina of Cedar Rapids, IA; and a sister, Sharon Covey of Monroe, IA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, John Christe, Dalton Shadle, Jared Shadle, David Baker, and Emma Rose Baker. Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cathy Shadle.
