Marguerite Barton

Marguerite Barton, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Salem, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 7th at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8th at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Interment will be in Salem East Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Salem Congregational Church and the Salem Veterans Memorial. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com The daughter of Raymo and Ruth Schwartz Morrison, Marguerite was born on February 13, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from Salem High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. On July 28, 1946, Marguerite married Demlar Otis Barton in Salem, IA. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2016. While attending college, Marguerite worked as a waitress at local restaurants. She also worked in production at Sheaffer Pen Company in Mt. Pleasant. A wonderful homemaker and mother, Marguerite's favorite job was taking care of her grandchildren while their mother's worked. Marguerite spent many hours working with her husband, Delmar, in their flower garden. She was an active member of Salem Congregational Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, leader, and director of many Christmas programs. She sang for several weddings and funerals throughout her life. Marguerite was a member of the Salem Women's Club and played a variety of instruments in the Salem Kitchen band. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Krieger of Salem, IA, Patty (John) Bohrman of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Diane (Robert) Ledbetter of Salem, IA; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ronald Schumaker. Along with her husband, Delmar, of 69 years, Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Katie Schumaker; and a great-granddaughter, Ariel Moeller.
