KEOTA-Margaret "Peg" Riordan, age 69, of Keota, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a lengthy illness. Margaret was born August 16, 1934, in Keota, to Basil and Kathleen (Reddy) Byrne. She graduated from Keota High School and received her degree from the University of Iowa. Margaret lived in Keota most of her life and taught school for several years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and enjoyed walking, reading, visiting the library. She was also an avid fan of the Keota Eagles and Iowa Hawkeyes. Survivors include three children: Michael Riordan and wife Marsha of Oskaloosa, Gregory Riordan of Hermiston, Oregon and Sheila Mackaig and husband Darrell of Downey, California; two step grandchildren: Sherri Reider and husband Jeff and Jeremy Mackaig; two step great grandchildren: Alissa and Dace Reider; three sisters: Patricia Hughes of Redwood City, California, Helen Kimball and husband Curtis of Prairie Village, Kansas and Mary Wolfe and husband Charles of Iowa City; two brothers: Paul H. Byrne and wife Darlene of Davenport and Basil (Skip) Byrne, Jr. and wife Diana of Raleigh, North Carolina and one brother-in-law: John Laux of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Rosemary Laux. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
