Margaret Hills

Margaret C. Hills, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, August 10, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church in her memory. Born March 19, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, Margaret was the daughter of Robert C. and Gladys Mae McKenzie Hills. She was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Margaret worked for the Mt. Pleasant Telephone Company during high school and for a year after graduating before attending nursing school. In 1951, Margaret graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City. Her nursing career began at Mercy Hospital and later at Dr. Megorden's office in Mt. Pleasant. Margaret worked for the Henry County Health Center for the majority of her 43 year nursing career, from where she retired. She dedicated her life to the loving care of her patients and family. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Nurses Association and the Retired Nurses Association. Margaret enjoyed cross-stitching, making quilts, reading, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Margaret is survived by one sister, Betty and her husband Ralph Breazeale of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one sister-in-law, Sharon Hills of Cedar Rapids, IA; two nephews, Bob (Sandy) Breazeale of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Kevin (Marsha) Hills of Mt. Vernon, IA; and two nieces, Barb (Terry) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Kim Ties of Mt. Vernon, IA. Also surviving are nine great nieces and nephews, Becca and Rachel Breazeale, Heather (Joe) Koster, Kendall Ann Hills, Nick, Marcus, and Karissa Smith, and Matt and Nate Ties. Along with her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hills and a step-brother, Frank Hills.
