SIGOURNEY-Mary Margaret Butler, age 92, of Sigourney, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at her daughter's home in Cedar Rapids. Margaret was born July 24, 1917, near What Cheer, Iowa, to Jessie and Anna Belle (Courtney) May and graduated from What Cheer High School. On April 11, 1939, she married Gene William Butler in Lancaster, Missouri. The couple lived in Sigourney where Margaret worked at People's Wholesale for 13 years and taught piano for 10 years. She was a member of Hilltop Chapel in What Cheer where she played piano. She was also the organist and choir director at the Sigourney Christian Church for many years and played the organ for countless funerals and weddings. Margaret was a member of the Aspasia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed crafts and sewing. Survivors include two daughters: Janice Coon and husband Bob of Louisville, Kentucky and Bethany Ann Wood and husband Everett of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister: Louise Jones of Marshalltown and one brother: Roy May of Apache Junction, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gene in 1997; granddaughter: Carrie Aller in 2007; two sisters: Ruth Heaton and Flossie Larrimer and one brother: Lloyd May. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Rev. John DeBoef officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
