Marcella I. Marcy Hassenfritz, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living
Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Friday, March 9th at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Spiegel, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or Henry County Health Center Foundation for the EMTs.
Born September 18, 1928, Burlington, IA, Marcella Irene was the daughter of August and Mary Erbland Stolze. She was a 1946 graduate of Burlington High School and obtained her two-year teaching certificate. On June 9, 1948, Marcy married George Robert Bob Hassenfritz at St. Johns Catholic Church in Burlington.
Prior to her marriage, Marcy taught country school in Des Moines County. Following marriage, she worked at Cargill Seed and was a substitute teacher. Marcy was a bookkeeper for her sons business, M H Services, for several years. Her most important calling was being a farm wife, mother, and grandmother.
A member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society, Marcy was a master gardener, along with being an active member of Mount Pleasant Womens Club where she participated in Gourmet Club and the Iris Club. As a farm wife, she was a member of the Just Sew Club. She also participated in both Horticulture Club and Coterie Club. Along with the many organizations she belonged to, Marcy enjoyed china painting, gardening, playing bridge, and spending time with her family and friends. She cherished the time she spent wintering in Florida with her husband.
Marcy is survived by three sons, Stephen (Roberta Metcalf) Hassenfritz of Hazelwood, MO, David Hassenfritz and Philip (Mary) Hassenfritz, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Mark Stolze of Ankeny, IA; and a sister-in-law, Sue Stolze of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bob Hassenfritz; a brother, Paul Stolze; and a sister-in-law, Delores Stolze.
