Marcus Wayne Yoder was born December 10, 1941 near Wellman, Iowa the son of Lester and Carrie (Slaubaugh) Yoder. He attended the Franklin rural school and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1960. He grew up in the Wellman community, then worked as a milk tester in Holmes County, Ohio from 1963-1965. On November 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Pearl Hunsberger in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. They have made their home in the Wellman community where Marcus has farmed since 1966. He was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church and the Johnson County Dairy Testing Association. He loved being on the farm tending to his dairy cattle, and it was especially meaningful for Marcus to help with this years harvest. Marcus died on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from Colon Cancer at the age of 64 years. Marcus is survived by his wife Pearl of Wellman; a daughter Renae Yoder of Goshen, Indiana; 2 sons - Marlow and wife Jenny of Kalona; Karsten and wife Jessica of North English; 3 grandchildren - Aidan, Kelyn and Malia; and 4 brothers - Carroll D. Yoder and wife Nancy of Harrisonburg, Virginia; Wilbur Yoder and wife Helen; Milford Yoder and wife Edna; and Galen Yoder and wife Gloria all of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. Rev. David Boshart and Rev. Helen Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where family will be present on Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday. A general memorial fund has been established.
