Marcia Lynn Watkins was born April 8, 1962 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Melvin and Veva (Miller) Herschberger. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1980. She married John Watkins and later divorced. She lived most of her life in the Kalona community. She worked as a prep cook at Der Sommerkuche in Kalona and at Dutch's Diner in Wellman. She was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and she was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved to read, cross stitch, and make plastic canvas crafts, and just loved life. Marcia died on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following a long illness at the age of 45 years. Marcia is survived by her husband Ron Hazen of Kalona; a son Jeremy Wiles of Marion; 2 daughters Kathryn and Christina Watkins of Kalona; a step daughter Allison Lynn and husband John Barnes of Fairfax; a step son Rob Hazen and wife Jill of Walford; 3 step grandchildren; her parents Melvin and Veva Herschberger of Kalona; 3 brothers Darrel Herschberger and wife Diane of Marion; Wade Herschberger and wife Cindy of Blaine, Minnesota; Brian Herschberger and wife Heather of Kalona; and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Kathy Herschberger.
A memorial fund has been established for the Girl Scouts.
