SIGOURNEY - Marcia Marie Marner Carmichael Oldfield was born June 14, 1922 in Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Mabel (Tracy) Marner. She attended schools in Wellman, and graduated from Iowa City High School in 1939, after which she attended the University of Iowa and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Ottumwa. In 1942 she married Vincent (VA) Carmichael and they lived in Sigourney after his World War II service. She assisted him in the horse, trucking, and livestock trailer business from their farm west of Sigourney. After Vince's death in 1980, she operated the trailer business until retiring in 1986. In 1992, she married Daryl Oldfield and they later divorced. In 1993 she sold the farm in Sigourney, and moved to Mission, Texas where she resided for the rest of her life. In Texas she was active in the McAllen Elks Lodge 1402 where she held offices, including treasurer. She enjoyed dancing, reading cryptograms, knitting, needlepoint and socializing. Marcia died on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at her home following a brief illness at the age of 84 years. Marcia is survived by 3 children : Doug (Elaine) Carmichael of Westmont, IL; Jane (Joe) Priante of Marquette, MI; and Mari (Leland) Horras of Keota; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister Muriel (Bob) Hamilton of Sigourney; a brother Dr. James Seeber of Aberdeen, SD; a brother-in-law Dr. Richard Carmichael of Keota; and special nieces and nephews as well as a very special cousin, Arlene Peiffer of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons Mike (VA, Jr.) Carmichael in 1972 and Robert (Rusty) Carmichael in 2002, and a brother, Lt. Bob Marner who was killed in World War II in Italy. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. Dr. James Seeber will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visiation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.
