Mahlon A. Miller was born March 5, 1924 in Hartville, Ohio the son of Adam and Anna (Schlabach) Miller. When Mahlon was a teenager, his family moved to Kalona. On October 5, 1944, he was united in marriage to Clara Coblentz in Kalona. They made their home in the Kalona community where he was a carpenter. He was a charter member of the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School, and served on many committees. He served in the CPS in Terry, Montana and Norristown, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed singing in men's quartets, and he lead a bible study group at the Oakdale Classification Center for several years. Mahlon was well respected for his faith and was a real spiritual pillar. Mahlon died on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a long illness at the age of 86 years and 8 months. Mahlon is survived by a daughter Anna Fern King and husband John of Kalona; a son LaVern Miller and wife Leora of Kalona; 9 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and two sisters - Sara Yoder and husband Amos of Grove City, Minnesota; and Lavina Kauffman of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clara; a daughter - Alta Marie Miller; two brothers - Ervin Miller and Dave Miller; and a brother-in-law Arthur Kauffman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church in Kalona. Pastors Floyd Helmuth, Floyd Yutzy and David L. Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Sunnyside Conservative Mennonite Church Missions.
