Mabel Ella Comfort

Mabel E. Comfort, 101, of Mount Pleasant, IA, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Arbor Court.According to her wishes, Mrs. Comfort has been cremated. A Celebration of Life Service is being planned for both Mabel and Edward Comfort in the spring of 2017. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the Arbor Court Activity Fund. Born June 11, 1915, in Pharsalia, NY, Mabel Ella was the daughter of Byron Charles and Julia Lucille (Peaslee) Brown. In 1933, she graduated from high school in South Otselic, NY. Mabel married Edward Gerald Comfort on July 22, 1933 in South Otselic. After 79 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 13, 2012. Mabel dedicated her life to serving the Lord and raising her children. In 1940, she and her family moved to Elmira, NY, where Mabel was very active at South Side Baptist Church and also served as the church custodian. She worked as a clerk at Panosians Shoe Store. As her children left home, Mabel returned to school for secretarial training and then worked in an insurance office for many years. Following her husband's retirement, the couple moved to Florida, and then to Mt. Pleasant in 2006, to be near family. Mabel had a deep love for animals. Mrs. Comfort is survived by three sons, Rev. Charles (Patricia) Comfort of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Phillip R. Comfort and David R. (Patricia) Comfort of West Melbourne, FL; one daughter, Beverly Coss of Ithaca, NY; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.Along with her husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Fayette Brown and Guy Brown.
