Mabel E. Neff, age 94, of Sigourney, died Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Mabel was born April 1, 1916, in rural Hayesville, to William Henry and Alma (Forney) Ogden. She graduated from Thornburg High School in 1934 and attended the Iowa Success School in Ottumwa for one year. Mabel moved to Sigourney in 1942, where she worked at Reynolds Funeral Chapel for 27 years, retiring in 1981. On December 2, 1978, she married Harold E. Neff at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Mabel was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, its U.M.W., the Gideon's Auxiliary, P.E.O. Chapter L, the Stitch & Study Club and the Wate-A-Bit Club. Survivors include one sister: Bernice Allar of Sigourney; two nieces: Kathy Keller of Humeston and Deborah Clarahan of Sigourney; a step-son: Mark Neff of Keota and two step-grandchildren: Kenneth and Sarah Neff. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harold in 1991 and one brother: Chester Ogden in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery in rural Thornburg. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney United Methodist Church Campership Fund.
