Martha Lucille Cobb was born on May 23, 1914 near North English, IA, the daughter of Frank and Catherine Hayes Wade. Her mother died when she was 10 years old. Lucille and her sister were raised by her aunt and uncle Sherman and Mattie Aggson. She grew up in the Green Valley Community near North English and attended Popham Country School. Lucille married Estill A. "Shorty" Cobb on January 27, 1932, in the Methodist parsonage in North English. They farmed near North English where she enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, sewing and quilting. She loved her family and grandchildren. Lucille was a member of the North English United Methodist Church. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in April 2009. Lucille died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. She lived 96 years, 5 months and 4 days. She is survived by a son Gene (Martha) Cobb of North English; two daughters: Connie Collingwood of Cedar Falls, IA and Bonnie Ritchie of North English, IA; 7 grandchildren; Cindy Cobb, Lonnie (Debbie) Cobb, Michael (Sandra) Cobb, Jeff (Kim) Cobb, Chandel (Brian) Welsh, Heidi (Scott) Lossmann and Honee (Chris) Mesa; 12 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and a sister Ellen Chittick of North English. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in October 1996, an infant granddaughter Laurie Ann Cobb, son-in-law Lester Collingwood, grandson Shaun Collingwood, brother Carroll Wade, and sister Lavon Wade A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the Piersol Cemetery near North English. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 5 PM at the funeral home in North English on Sunday, October 31, 2010.
